Wise Decision? Buhari May Offer Cash To Boko Haram In Returns For Chibok Girls

President Muhammadu Buhari, who pledged to defeat Boko Haram by the end of 2015, said he would not rule out offering cash or prisoners swap in exchange for the Chibok school girls.
The President also said he would not resign even if he fails to fulfill his promise of ending the Boko Haram insurgency in December.
This was contained in a press release sent via email by Ryan Kohls on behalf of Al Jazeera English and ‘UpFront’. Upfront, which is hosted by Mehdi Hasan, had interviewed Buhari on the activities of the group.

When Al Jazeera asked him whether he would offer money or do prisoner exchange with Boko Haram, President Buhari said, “Yes, we said it and we meant it. If we are satisfied that the girls are alive, well it depends on the negotiations of Boko Haram.”
The president said, “By the end of the year, Boko Haram will virtually be out of their main stronghold and that will be the end of it. Attacks by Boko Haram on townships and on military installations will certainly stop.”
If Boko Haram isn’t defeated by December, however, Buhari said he would not resign.
“I will be determined to stay and fight it out,” the President said.
Buhari also reiterated that his administration would be willing to negotiate with the Boko Haram insurgents if the group can give assurance that the Chibok schoolgirls abducted over a year ago are well and alive.
“They (Boko Haram) have to prove to us that they are alive, they are well, and then we can…negotiate with them,” Buhari told Hasan.
Asked whether he would offer financial payments or a prisoner release to Boko Haram in return for the girls, Buhari did not rule out either option.
“Well, it depends on the negotiations with the leadership of Boko Haram,” the President said.
It has been 18 months since more than 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram at Chibok in Borno State.
Buhari had, last Month, during an interaction with members of the Nigerian community in France under the auspices of Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation, reiterated his administration’s readiness to negotiate with the terror gang.
Buhari said his administration was worried by the continued stay of the girls in the hands of their captors and was working tirelessly to get them release.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, had in July confirmed the willingness of government to negotiate with the sect if the gang was ready to engage in talks with the government.
Also in the interview with Al Jazeera English, Buhari claimed not to have seen the Amnesty International report from June 2015, “Nigeria: Stars on their shoulders: Blood on their hands,” in which the human rights group documented abuses, torture and unlawful killings by the Nigerian armed forces and urged the government to prosecute a group of officers and senior commanders.
He said, “I haven’t received that report personally. If I get those documents… I assure you that I will take action as Commander in Chief.”
In the past, Buhari has been quoted as saying he supports “the total implementation of the Sharia in the country” but he told ‘UpFront’ that “Nigerian law does not allow for” so-called Sharia punishments, such as stoning and amputation, adding that “I cannot change it. I haven’t been voted by majority of Nigerians to change Nigerian constitution.”
Asked about his record as a military dictator in the mid-1980s and the alleged rights abuses which occurred under his watch, Buhari said, “If there is any injustice that can be proved against me when I was there, I will gladly apologise.”
The President refused, however, to concede that his now notorious war against indiscipline’ in the 1980s featured any such “injustice.”

MASSOB faction condemns arrest of Radio Biafra Director

By Peter Okutu
ABAKALIKI-THE faction of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB weekend called on the Federal government to immediately release the Radio Biafra Director, Nnamdi Kanu who was arrested by the Department of State Security, DSS in Lagos state.Director of pirate radio, Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu
In a statement issued in Abakaliki, the National Director of Information, MASSOB, Comrade Uchenna Madu threatened that any refusal by the federal government to ensure the release of Kanu would lead to a world wide demonstration, protest which would endanger the already battered image of Nigeria before the international communities.
The statement read in part: “MASSOB Faction condemned the cowardly arrest and detention of Radio Biafra Director but also accept the fact that it is part of non violence struggle; no agitation is complete without arrest, detention & prosecution.
“It shape the minds of the activist, drawing sympathy from the internal and external observers. It also shows that Nnamdi Kanu and Radio Biafra have become a factor of reckoning in Nigeria.
“The arrest & detention of Nnamdi Kanu by DSS will assist immensely in reviving the consciousness & sympathy for Biafra actualization in higher dimension which was temporary halted by Ralph Uwazuruike’s deviation & lust of wealth.
“This singular arrest will cause more diplomatic harm on Nigeria’s image than good. Before Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest, he has succeeded in rooting the Biafra struggle in about 78 countries including Biafraland
“Through Radio Biafra, International tour & secret diplomatic build up. MASSOB warns Nigeria Govt to quickly release Nnamdi Kanu now or arraign him in a competent court of justice or face an eruption of Biafra world wide demonstration, protest which will endanger the already battered image of Nigeria before the international communities and cause more diplomatic harm to Nigeria”

Biafra group write world leaders over leader’s arrest

The group championing the secession of Biafra from Nigeria, Indigenous People of Biafra Worldwide, which owns Radio Biafra on Sunday, wrote an open letter to world leaders over the plight of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who was arrested yesterday by the Directorate of State Service, DSS.In the letter written by one Ifeanyi Chijioke on behalf of the group, the members said that with the arrest of Kanu, freedom of speech had received a knock of death.
The letter reads: “The world leaders must stand up to its integrity, pride, and in defense of the law they made,” the group said adding that the UN chatter on the rights of indigenous people had become endangered with the arrest of this “leader of indigenous people of Biafra.
“It’s in record that Nnamdi kanu is a law abiding leader who has disciplined indigenous people of Biafra to strictly abide by local and international law.
“The gut for his arrest is nothing but slap on the face of United Nations.
“Meanwhile, this is a gross provocation of indigenous people of Biafra and, as endangered people, would only wait shortly for due process and immediate release of her leader.
“The world should know that arrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is the making of monster in indigenous people of Biafra and to prevent and save lives must world leaders stand up to their responsibility.
“Biafrans, as endangered species of terror, genocide, murder and unlawful detentions, must be sorted or laws will be taken into their hands.
“Biafrans call on world leaders to prevail on Buhari to with immediate effect release the leader of the people as he is charged with no crime.

Nnamdi Kanu’s Arrest: Nigeria finally plays into the grand strategy of Biafrans

Nigerian government this week made the greatest mistake of the century by the arrest of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and director of the Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
Nigeria made the mistake of equating Biafra to Nnamdi Kanu. Muhammadu Buhari may have been ill-advised that arresting and unlawfully detaining Nnamdi Kanu will quench the fire of Biafra raging across the world. How mistaken they are.
How can one stop such a raging wave that has ubiquitous structure across the world by arrest of a single man?
Buhari and Nigeria inadvertently played into the grand strategy of Biafrans. Biafrans have waited for them to make this move. With the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, Nigeria has given Biafran a perfect excuse to increase the agitation for their freedom. They have given reasons for so may world governments seeking to help Biafrans to wage into the matter!
Similar to the unimaginable local and international free publicity of Radio Biafra by the Nigerian government when it unsuccessfully tried to shut down the daily broadcast from the Biafran freedom radio, the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu will escalate the Biafran restoration cause to unimaginable corners of the world.
Kanu has always spoken about the rascality, irresponsibility and oppression of Nigerian government. Infact the fulcrum of Kanu’s daily’s broadcast from Radio Biafra lies on the unquenching zeal of Nigerian government to repress freedom of speech and respect of human rights.
What else can demonstrate this to the international community, who the Biafrans have been wooing for a long time to turn to the aid of Biafrans, than the arrest of Kanu. Imagine the modern world where Alex Salmond can speak about the independence of Scotland from Britain without getting hounded not to talk of arrested.
Imagine the Spanish government arresting Artur Mas for agitating for the independence of Catalonia? This is exactly what the Nigerian government has just done. The international community will clearly understand such message.
No other example can clearly demonstrate the plight of Biafrans under the Nigerian government than the arrest of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for seeking the liberation of his people.
It is very laughable that Buhari who has failed to arrest the sponsors and leaders of Boko Haram terrorists group killing and maiming innocent people, preferred to go after Biafrans who are peacefully seeking freedom from oppression and injustice.
Instead of dampening the Biafran spirit, Kanu’s arrest has intensified the passion and resoluteness of Biafrans.
By the way it is way too late to arrest Nnamdi Kanu in order to stop Biafra. Kanu has virtually completed his work. He has laid the foundations for the restoration of Biafra. He has raised the conscience of Biafrans across the world. As it stands today there are a thousand and one Nnamdi Kanu who are able and willing to carry on.
Long Live ‪#‎NnamdiKanu‬!
Long live Republic of Biafra!!

Enugu East: Jubilation trails tribunal order for fresh election

TheMarch 28 Enugu-East senatorial election exposed the colour of the water that passed under the bridge during the poll.
The water, stinking with unaccounted ballot papers, result mutilations, accreditation flaws, ballot box stuffing, among others, culminated in non-compliance with the 2010 Electoral Act.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had, on March 29, declared Senator Gil Nnaji of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the winner of the election, having polled 69,544 against that of the Peoples Democratic Change, PDC, candidate, former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani who scored 57,528.Nnamani had, in the days leading to the election, embarked on an issue-based campaign, citing his monumental achievements as governor of Enugu State.
The declaration of the PDP candidate the winner of the election elicited wild protests in Enugu metropolis. Nnamani calmed frayed nerves, assuring he will challenge the result at the tribunal.
In a petition brought before the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, headed by Justice Matthew Adewara of Kwara High Court, Nnamani prayed the court to declare him the winner or order a fresh election following irregularities that marred the poll.
The suit, which had Nnaji as first respondent, PDP, second respondent, and INEC, third respondent, unravelled INEC’s collusion with the PDP when, during trial, the electoral body’s counsel, Mr. Benson Ibezim, rejected a certified true copy of a document issued by the Commission, saying it could not be admitted in evidence for doubtful authenticity and competence of the Commission’s Legal Services Department to endorse the document.
Last Monday, the tribunal, delivering verdict on the petition, held that accreditation of voters in the election was flawed as confirmed during cross examination of the respondents.
“The first respondent, while trying to deny that irregularities marred the election, exposed more mutilation of result in polling stations where he claimed to have won. Ballot papers were not accounted for, which affected the outcome of the result. Irregularities occurred in the six local government areas that constitute the senatorial district”, the tribunal Chairman Justice Adewara, said.
“Sufficient evidence was laid before this tribunal showing that the first respondent inflated results while deflating the petitioner’s result. These irregularities and non-compliance were substantial to mar the outcome of the election. The petitioner has proved beyond reasonable doubt that the election did not comply with the provisions of Electoral Act 2010.
“Based on the foregoing, we thereby void the election and order a fresh election.”
Thousands of Nnamani’s supporters, who thronged the court room, immediately erupted in jubilation. The crowd sang victory songs through major streets of Enugu metropolis.
Enugu lawyer, Ray Nnaji, noted that Nnamani won the election clearly even as he added that the tribunal looked at the merit of the petition in cancelling the election
Another respondent, Chidi Ugwu, said: “The judgment is a welcomed development. I monitored the election to the extent that Chimaroke defeated Nnaji even in the polling station in front of his residence. With the pronouncement of the tribunal, I now know that the judiciary is worth its salt. All over the state, people believe Chimaroke won the election.”

Breaking: Radio Biafra Director, Nnamdi Kanu reportedly arrested

Director of pirate radio, Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, was on Saturday, reportedly arrested by Nigeria secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS).Director of pirate radio, Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu
Kanu, who is also acclaimed to be the Director of Biafra Television and the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was said to have been arrested in Lagos, yesterday.
The Deputy Director of Radio Biafra, Uche Mefor, alongside other members of the group, in a marathon broadcast on the pirate radio, alleged that Kanu was arrested in Lagos by the security operatives, as he flew into Nigeria from his base in the UK.
The group in a tweet on Sunday, via its Twitter handle, confirmed the arrest.
See tweet belowIn a statement published on its website, the separatist movement also confirmed that their Director has been arrested in Lagos by the Nigerian authorities, noting that it (Nigeria) has through this arrest played into the grand strategy of Biafrans.
However, at the time of filing this report, Vanguard was yet to independently confirm the arrest, even as the DSS authorities were yet to publicly make any statement about the arrest.
IPOB is a separatist movement that call for the independence of Nigeria’s former Eastern Region – proclaimed the Republic of Biafra in 1967 and reannexed to Nigeria three years later, following a civil war that claimed between one and three million lives

FG To Ban Rice Importation In Two Years – Yari

Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State said yesterday that the Federal Government will ban importation of rice in the next two years.
Yari dropped the hint in a chat with State House correspondents at the end of a meeting on the new policy on agriculture and food sustainability at the Vice President’s conference room.
He lamented the fact that the immediate past administration did not export any locally-produced rice from the country.
He said: “We discussed how we can boost rice production and how we are going to put policy in place to ban rice importation.
“We have the potential; we have the human resources; we have the arable land to grow rice.
“In the next two years, we will not need to bring rice from outside Nigeria. We are going to ban it”.
Yari, who is also Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, said: “It is only in Nigeria, a country of millions of people, that there is no food security.
“We discussed the policy with the relevant permanent secretaries and Central Bank governor.
“The policy is going to be in place and we gave our commitment that we are ready to support the government policy in ensuring that Nigeria becomes self-sufficient in food production in the next two years.
“Nigeria is presently a major importer of rice. Now, the political will is in place to stop it. We in about nine states are going to be seriously engaged in massive rice production.
“We are hoping that in the next two years, rice importation into Nigeria will be banned. We are committed and the political will is in place”.

Igbo in Akure, the Ondo State capital, have reportedly shut down their businesses to protest the planned dethronement of their Eze- Ndigbo, Sir Gregory Iloehike by Deji of Akure.
The Igbo, who converged on their secretariat at Gbogi Street as early as 7am, warned the monarch against dethroning the Eze Ndigbo, insisting that he has no power to dethrone Iloehike.

“I went with one of my chiefs but when I got to the palace, I saw youths numbering over 200 who started shouting as I entered.
“I suspected that they were mobilised by the monarch and I showed respect to him by prostrating.
“The monarch threatened to drive out the Igbo from Akure and when I asked why, the youth descended on me.

4 ways to Save a Marriage

Sometimes, letting go seems like the easiest thing to do. But think about this: you've invested so much of your time and energy into another person (and possibly little ones); you've made a solemn promise; and you still know there's love, even if it's hiding underneath the surface. This article will show you how to save a marriage and avoid divorce, even if you're the only one trying. If you want to resurrect the happy times in your marriage and put the rough ones on the back burner, read on for a discussion of how to do just that.
Ad
Method One of Three:
Finding out What Went Wrong
1
Make an effort to figure out what went wrong. You can't move forward if you don't know what's keeping you back. Most relationships — and people — suffer from a few flaws, and perhaps those flaws are getting in the way of a healthy relationship. Your job is to take a long, hard look at what you think went wrong. Here are just a few:
*.Growing incompatibility. Work, family, stress, finance and everything else our modern world throws at you can cause people to reveal their true colors. Are the real-world husband and wife very different from the fairy-tale version?
*.Infidelity. Is the guilt of an affair weighing on you or your spouse? Did confession cause everything to suddenly blow up?
*.Lack of communication. What you say doesn't get processed by your spouse, and what your spouse says doesn't get processed by you. Maybe neither of you says anything at all.
*.Death of a loved one. You or your spouse's world changed irrevocably after someone close to you died, and you can't go back to the life you had before.
*.Money. Someone is a spendthrift and the other is a penny-pincher, and the twain never meet. Or maybe growing financial insecurity is making home life bitingly negative.
*.Sex. If sex is a physical symbol of your love for one another, the wilting of that symbol can be both emotionally and physically saddening.
2
Figure out if what went wrong is something fixable. It's a perfectly natural response to try to save your sinking ship, but what if the ship is so tattered that it isn't worth saving? No one can make this decision for you, but know that certain flaws in people or relationships might not be worth trying to save.
*.Know that people rarely change. People often say they'll change, but they rarely do. After they're comfortable, they usually revert back to the people they were before. It's not impossible for someone to change wholesale, but it's unlikely.
3
Open communication with your spouse.Get information from them about how they think the relationship can be improved. When bringing up this difficult conversation with your spouse, remember a few things:
*.Don't be accusatory. Accusing them of something will only burn bridges. Instead of"I thought you were going to take care of that, which is why I'm angry it didn't happen,"you can say"We all know that no one's perfect. I just thought you were going to take care of that, so I was surprised when it didn't happen."
*.Count to three before you answer. A lot of the time, our impulse is to fight back instead of hear what the person is actually saying. Count to three before you answer, thinking about what your spouse has said. Calm and composure on your end will produce similar results on their end.
4
Seek out a marriage counselor (optional).A marriage counselor, while expensive, offers highly nuanced insight into the clockwork of your marriage. A counselor might be able to identify what went wrong from an informed, but emotionally distant, place. Because the counselor has no skin in the game, so to speak, s/he is less likely to lie, to cut corners, or forget inconvenient facts. A marriage counselor might very well save your marriage.

I Came To Lagos To Steal- Convicted SUV Snatcher Confesses (Pictured)

A convicted car snatcher, Somadina Enyiobi has confessed that he left his village in Oraifite in Anambra State to Lagos with the mission to steal and become a successful rich man.
He stated this at Isolo Magistrates’ court, Lagos State, western Nigeria, where he was convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment without an option of fine for conspiracy and stealing.
The 26-year-old convict said before he agreed to come to Lagos, he knew his mission was to steal because his brother who brought him to Lagos clearly told him about their car snatching business.
Enyiobi said he was brought to Lagos by his village friend and brother he identified as Uchechukwu in 2014, who introduced him to other members of their gang.
He said whenever Uchechukwu returned to their village, he usually came with huge money which he would use to buy them drinks and encouraged him to join him in Lagos.
“Uchechukwu told me to follow him to Lagos and hussle with him and I was convinced and I followed him,” he narrated.
Enyiobi confessed that he had been involved in car snatching and other criminal activities and had earned some money before he was arrested.
He said his gang engaged in other criminal activities but specialised in car snatching because it was a bit easier than armed robbery.
He said he and the gang members had no fixed address and when they make money in their business, they would lodge in a hotel.
“I dont have fixed address. If we make money, we will go to hotel and lodge and if the money finishes, we will sleep in uncompleted buildings or public schools,” he said.
On whether he regrets being caught, tried and convicted, he said he was paying the price for his sins and that his time in prison will enable him to reflect on his past activities and pray to God for forgiveness and repentance.
Enyiobi’s journey to prison started after he went to Green Estate along Ago Palace Way in Okotoa and stole a Venza SUV parked in a compound.
The SUV with registration number KSF 203 DA belongs to Godwin Chukwudum who resides in the estate.
According to Enyiobi, he went there with two of his gang members he identified as Uchechukwu (the gang leader) and Emmanuel and forced Chukwudum’s housegirl to give them the key to the SUV.
He said when she refused, they threatened to kill her and she eventually showed them where the key was kept.
He said they collected the key, tied the housegirl’s mouth, legs and mouth and locked her inside the flat and attempted to drive the SUV out of the estate.
However, luck ran out on Enyiobi when he approached the security gate in the estate and the security guards who knew the owner of the SUV asked him where he was going with the car.
When he was unable to give a satisfactory answer, the owner who had gone to work was immediately contacted on phone and he came and arrested Enyiobi, while his two gang members escaped.
He was handed over to the police at Ago Palace division who charged him to court, while his gang members who escaped are still at large.

Enyeama Explains Row With Oliseh, May Quit Eagles

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama has expressed his displeasure over his row with the coach of the team, Sunday Oliseh.
The player spoke with Colin Udoh of ESPN FC
“I was surprised,” Enyeama, who has 101 Nigeria caps to his name, told ESPN FC. “So I stood up to explain my position and ask for an explanation, but the coach asked me to sit down.
“I insisted on speaking because I felt that with the years of dedicated service I have given to the country I deserve at least the respect of giving my own side. But he told me that either the whole team would leave the room for me, or I would have to leave the room for the whole team.”
“There has been a lot of incidents these last few months,” he said. “I don’t need it, the team does not need it, so maybe the best thing might be to step aside in the interest of the country so that the team can focus on football instead of distractions.”
Enyeama arrived at the Nigeria camp on Tuesday, one day after Monday’s deadline, after attending his mother’s funeral over the weekend in his home town.
According to reports, Oliseh was unhappy about his captain’s late arrival and demoted him at a team meeting after dinner, naming CSKA Moscow forward Ahmed Musa as the new captain.

Zimbabwe Blocks Chris Okafor, Nigerian Prophet Who Said Mugabe Would Die

A Nigerian preacher, who last year claimed Zimbabwe was going to have a new leader within six months, has had to cancel his trip to the country after his lieutenants were deported.
By Staff Reporter
Chris Okafor, leader of the Liberation City World Outreach Ministries, was reportedly due in Zimbabwe today, but reportedly cancelled the trip due to his “prophecy” that Zimbabwe would have a young leader by March this year and those who had previously persecuted the incoming President would start dying within 30 days.
After five Nigerian preachers were deported at the weekend, it was suspected that this was a result of sinister battles among local religious leaders, but it has emerged that suspected Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operatives quizzed local church leader Joseph Magorimbo and detained two of the remaining Nigerians, whose whereabouts could not be ascertained last night.
“The CIO took Pastor Joseph Magorimbo (of Glory to All Nations Ministries also known as Fire) and questioned him for five hours accusing him of inviting Pastor Chris Okafor,” the source privy to the goings-on told NewsDay.
“They are claiming that Okafor prophesied something against the President. But they have not said what it is Okafor said. Okafor was supposed to arrive tomorrow (today), but he has since cancelled the trip.”
The clergymen’s lawyer, Jonathan Samukange, confirmed to NewsDay from Namibia yesterday that his clients had been detained, quizzed and possibly deported.
“We have been advised by our clients that they were picked up by nine people, who claimed to be immigration officials, detained and questioned for over five hours at Linquenda House (Immigration Department headquarters),” Samukange said.
“Magorimbo was released in the dead of the night, while the two foreigners were bundled into a truck and taken to an unknown destination.
“We believe they have been deported. They were threatened and told in no uncertain terms not to contact their lawyers. Now if this is what happened, then (Francis) Mabika (assistant regional immigration officer in charge of compliance and enforcement) is in contempt of court.”
Samukange added: “The provisional court order was issued in his (Mabika) presence and, as a government official, he cannot be seen to be defying lawful court orders.”
On Sunday, Mabika told NewsDay he was not aware of the court order. “The lawyers who are talking of a court order must give it to you. We have no idea of the court order,” Mabika said.
“We only know that two people had a problem at the [Harare International] Airport, but have since been allowed in.”
Mabika constantly terminated calls when NewsDay tried to get comment from him yesterday.
In October last year, Okafor, known in Nigeria as God’s Oracle, is said to have claimed he had seen a vision where “Zimbabwe [is] to have a throne change in six months and three weeks, the new leader will be less than 50 years old and those who oppressed Zimbabwe will start dying in 30 days’ time”.
It is understood that the prediction might not have been well-received by Zimbabwean authorities. At the weekend authorities in Harare were said to have deported Okafor’s advance party of five clergymen, but allowed two of them into the country following the court order granted by High Court judge Justice November Mtshiya.
Okafor had been invited to a conference scheduled to have begun yesterday and set to end tomorrow, but is now stuck in South Africa following the new developments.
