Governor Ayade Trapped On Calabar-Ikom Road - Politics

Motorists were on Saturday stranded at the Ekori/Obubra end of the Calabar-Ikom-Ogoja highway in Cross River State following the blockage of traffic by a fallen trailer.
Southern City News gathered on Sunday that among those stranded was the State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, who was on his way to his hometown, Obudu, for a thanksgiving service.
It was learnt that after attempts to clear the way failed, the governor and his entourage, had to make a detour through another route to get to his destination.
No fewer than 20 trailers and 60 other vehicles were trapped in the ensuing gridlock as they could not leave the vicinity until the road was cleared in the early hours of Sunday.
A stranded commuter, Benjamin Uche, described the bad state of the road as an apology to a state that prides itself as a tourist destination.
Uche said despite an allegation that the trailer driver did not observe caution when passing through the bad spot, the road had become a threat to road users.
“We got to this spot as early as 8am on Saturday and blocked the only good portion of the road. We became stranded as more vehicles and trailers came. The scene became rowdy when the governor and his entourage also joined us for a while.
“The security men tried to clear the way but it was obvious that they could not. They had to reverse to take another route. I do not know where they took but it was obvious they knew it was not a security matter.
“This road had remained like this in the last eight years. They will only just patch some portions during the dry season and when the rain comes it goes back to this bad state.
“The government is aware of the deplorable state of this federal road and nothing is being done to rebuild the road that was constructed nearly 40 years ago. It is a disgrace to Cross River State because we are known to pride ourselves as tourist destination. Is bad road part of what tourism is all about? Cross River State should answer that question for us,” he said.
It took the intervention of the Itigidi Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps, following an order from the State Sector Commander, Mr. Ikechukwu Igwe, to clear the road, 18 hours after.
Confirming the development, Igwe told Southern City News the intervention of his men saved the situation, even as he lamented that the trailer that blocked the road was not road worthy as the tyres were incomplete.
Igwe urged motorists to be patient when they get to bad spots on the road, hinting that the trailer driver was probably impatient when he got to the bad spot.
“Road users should please, exercise patience when they get to bad spots. They should equally ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before they pass through this type of road. The road got blocked completely because of the impatience of other road users.
“That was why vehicles got stranded and the road became impassable. This thing happened on Friday night and the road was eventually cleared on Sunday morning. I had to come from Calabar to ensure that the road was cleared,” Igwe said

DELSU Finds ‘exam Expo’ In Student’s Private Part - Education

NO fewer than six female students, one of them a final year student of the Department of Library and Information Science, Delta State University, Abraka, were last Friday caught with “expo materials” during examination.
An examiner identified as Sylvester Okiemute caught a final year female student of the Department of Library and Information Science with incriminating materials during an examination.
Sources said the student was caught while sitting for an exam on ‘Entrepreneurship and Information Services’ who had been observing her suspicious moves.
It was gathered that the examiner, convinced that the student was making reference to a paper he smuggled in, asked her to hand over the paper. The girl denied and that led to a shouting match between the examiner and the student. It was gathered that the examiner dipped his hands into her private part recovered the incriminating materials.
Our source, who narrated the incident on condition of anonymity, said the
student was earlier caught by another examiner and she pleaded with the examiner, who later pardoned her.
She was reportedly given another booklet to start over again, but was caught again, 45 minutes later.
Confirming the incident, the university Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Victor Peretomode, said the university had declared total war on illegality and examination malpractices.
Peretomode warned that any student, no matter how highly placed, found to be involved in examination malpractices would be shown the way out.

There are those who say that you intentionally generate controversy so that you will always be in the news. How would you respond to that?
It is not about intentionally generating controversy. When I’m happy, when I want to have fun, the way I have fun might be controversial for some because like right now, I came out to work and I’m looking all good but if I’m going to a party, you don’t expect me to be formal. You should also understand that what other people wear, when I wear it, it comes out different. There are different things that make me happy some people do drug but me I just like playing with my physique and playing with my attires. So that is the kick I get.
Your sexuality is always in the public eye. Are you comfortable with that?
I am very comfortable with myself. I love myself to bits. I love everything about me. I have no regrets.
People tend to know you more with your natural endowments…
(cuts in) When you talk about people, the truth is that, I don’t really care. I am having fun. Life is short. So I just do my thing. If you keep listening to people, you will just change your destiny. You won’t be able to achieve what you want. Then when you get old, you will be very annoying and irritable. Live your life. Don’t bother about all those people, especially when there is no particular name attached to these people.
How do you catch fun?
I love listening to music. I love dressing up. I love going out. Generally, I love doing things that make me happy. Where does your music career stand as of today?
Like I always say when people ask me this question, I’m not in a competition with anybody. I’m doing good all by myself. You know, I have a good friend. He is a big name in this industry. Any money he gets, he uses it to shoot expensive videos and yet, this guy doesn’t even have a car.
Why would somebody stress themselves just because they want to be on TV all the time? It’s expensive to promote music so if you do one a year, it is not a bad thing. It depends on how you cut out your life but I always suggest. If you are an up and coming, always make sure you have other things you do. Don’t rely on just one source of income. That is why we have five fingers in each hand. Try to get like five things that will keep you very busy and will make money for you.
Are you working on an album?
My dear, again, let me repeat it. I am not in a competition with anybody. I have a studio in my place. I bought all the equipment needed for movie production. Anything that makes me happy, I just get it.
How would you describe your sense of style?
My sense of style all depends on what and how I feel. So if I feel like being sexy, I know what to do. If I am going for an interview, I know how to dress. How do you relate with your fans?
I love my fans. I can do anything for them.

Boko Haram Attacks Borno Village On Horseback, Kills 68 - Politics

At least 68 people were killed while several others
were injured when members of Boko Haram sect
invaded Baanu Village of Nganzai local government
area of Borno state.
A resident of the area, Yuram Musa who fled to
Maiduguri said the insurgents who came on horses
at about 8:30 pm on Friday started shooting
sporadically.
He said, “we have to fled into the bush and hide
and after they left we return back to pick some of
our belongings. I counted 68 corpses some were
slaughtered while others were shot. The number
of those killed are worrisome as the corpses
littered the village”
“ The Government have to do something fast if not
they will continue to wreck havoc of innocent
citizens, as every surrounded villages which are 5
killometres away from Gajiram, the headquarters of
Nganzai have been taken over by the insurgents,
as most of them are residing around the area,
Musa stated.
Confirming the attack on the Baanu village, the
Borno state Governor, Hon. Kashim Shettima while
addressing the parents of the abducted Chibok girls
over the weekend said the insurgents killed 56
persons in Nganzai village.

Yoruba’ll Regret Voting Buhari – Okunrounmu. - Politics

Aleader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Senator Femi Okunrounmu, says the Yoruba will regret voting President Muhammadu Buhari.
Okunrounmu, who was the Chairman of the defunct Presidential Advisory Committee on National Conference, had supported former President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term and asked the Yoruba to vote for him so that he would be able to implement the report of the conference.
However, Buhari received over two million votes from the South-West in the last election, defeating Jonathan in the process.
Speaking with our correspondent during a telephone interview on Saturday, Okunrounmu said his predictions about the Buhari administration were already coming true.
He said Buhari’s recent appointments showed that the North would dominate Nigeria in all spheres.
He said, “As a Yoruba man, I am very uncomfortable with this (appointments). Buhari had a reputation for ethnic bias and when we said it during the election, they said we were lying.
“The change the APC was talking about meant two different things. The APC in the North saw change as an opportunity to return power to the region while those in the South-West were looking for genuine social change. At the end, the North just used the South-West to get into Aso Rock and now we are regretting it.”
The President’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Adesina, had said Buhari would balance the lopsided appointments very soon.
However, Okunrounmu said all the important appointments had already been made.
He noted that no other appointment could be more powerful than the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
He said, “Look at the power configuration in Nigeria today; there are three arms of government: The executive, the legislature and the judiciary. The executive is headed by Buhari who is a northerner; the two arms of the legislature which are the Senate and the House of Representatives, are headed by northerners: Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara, respectively.
“The Chief Justice, Mahmoud Mohammed, who heads the judiciary, is also a northerner. So, the entire government is completely in the hands of northerners.”
The Afenifere chieftain said the fact that a Yoruba man is the vice-president meant nothing as there was no constitutional role for the vice-president.
He said the vice-president slot was a ploy which the All Progressives Congress leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, used in deceiving the people of the South-West.
He added, “I have never hesitated in telling people that Tinubu is not the right leader for the Yoruba race. He is not truthful and that was why Gani Fawehinmi took him to court.”
Okunrounmu, who was a member of the 4th Assembly, urged Buhari to prove his critics right by implementing the report of the conference.
He said, “Clearly, his body language and the body language of all his lieutenants show that they are not keen on implementing the resolutions of the conference. However, in spite of that, those of us who believe it is the panacea to the problems of this nation shall not stop putting pressure on the President and all other organs of government to let them see that this is the way forward.”

Congregation Chases Pastor From Church For Impregnating Member - Religion

There was commotion on Sunday at the United Methodist Church, Mafoluku, in the Oshodi area of Lagos as members of the church rejected their pastor and chased him away for allegedly impregnating his housemaid.
It was learnt that the pastor, Barkuma Andrew, was stopped from leading the church seven months ago when the housemaid, who was also a member of the church, Grace, had complications after aborting the pregnancy.
Andrew lives with his wife, children, wife’s cousin, Favour, and Grace in a three-bedroomed flat on the church premises.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the members had petitioned the Central Conference of the church in Taraba State to investigate the alleged atrocity. They, however, sought the service of another pastor three weeks ago when the district reportedly failed to probe Andrew.
Our correspondent learnt that members had come to church around 10am for Sunday service only to see that Andrew and some “unknown” people had commenced the service.
It was gathered that the development resulted in a breach of the peace as Andrew and his group were chased out of the church.
Men from the Makinde Police Division, including the DPO, were said to have intervened after the incident was reported at the station.
A member of the church and a former secretary to Andrew, Moses Sherima, told our correspondent that the pastor sent his wife to her village when he impregnated Grace.
He said, “My room is opposite pastor’s apartment and I was his secretary. When he started dating that girl (Grace), I called his wife’s cousin, Favour, on the matter. She said Grace used to tell her whenever the pastor had sex with her.
“At a point, I had to move upstairs when I could no longer bear it. The day that abortion happened, I was sleeping inside my room when I heard Grace screaming. I rushed there and saw blood coming out from her private parts. When the wife came back from one of her numerous journeys, he told her to send Favour away.”
Another church member, John Komboroh, said the church was embarrassed by Andrew’s conduct, adding that they were tired of his leadership.
He said, “The petition of adultery against the pastor had been sent to the bishop at the Central Conference. He came here, but did not do anything about it. That was why we wrote to the main body, the Southern Conference to give us another pastor. His (Andrew’s) action is an embarrassment to us. We don’t want him again.”
The new pastor of the church, Reverend James Sunday, said, “We were about to start our service this morning when we met the old pastor and some unknown people already holding the service. I calmed down my people to avoid chaos.”
Another resident and a female member, who identified herself only as Blessing, said the pastor had once made sexual advances to her.
“My husband is not always at home. The pastor would call me in the night and asked if I had slept. One day he entered my room and gave me a soft slap on my back. I had only the wrapper on me.
“I was surprised and told my neighbours.”
When contacted on the telephone around 1pm on Sunday, Andrew said he was in a meeting and promised to get back to our correspondent on the incident.
He told PUNCH Metro that he was still at the meeting when he was called back around 5pm.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Patricia Amadin, had yet to reply to a message sent to her line as of press time.

The Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, the government parastatal responsible for regulating the broadcast industry here has placed the NTBB label on at least 18 popular songs.
Established on August 24, 1992, the NBC derives its powers from Act 38 of 1992 and Act 55 of 1999 as amended.
According to information gathered by THENETNG, banned songs include Wizkid‘s In My Bed, Fans Mi by Davido (featuring American rapper Meek Mill), Olamide‘s Shakiti Bobo and Iyanya‘s collaboration with Don Jazzy, Gift.
Others are Tony Montana by Naeto Cfeaturing D’banj, Oyari ( Dr Sidand Tiwa Savage), Gbese ( Lil Kesh), Ibadi ( May D), Tesojue ( Reminisce), Yayo ( Phyno), Lomo ( Jhybo) and Pre‘s The Girl.
NBC also banned 3 foreign songs: Nicki Minaj‘s Anaconda, Post to be by Omarionfeaturing Chris Brownand Jhene Aikoand Ace Hood’s collaboration with Rick Rosstitled Bugatti.
Most of the banned songs are already big hits, and will continue to get played in night clubs, and on websites across the world. They will also remain on cable platforms like Hip TV, MTV Base and Soundcity.
NBC memos to the station heads say the labelling reflects how the commission’s officers categorise the music. Free-to-air channels are not allowed to broadcast music containing vulgar lyrics, obscene scenes and. violence One particular instance, according to insiders, is Davido’sFans Mi which the NBC believes is promoting ostentatious lifestyle, drug trafficking and indecent exposure. The Nigerian Drug law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had also expressed concerns about the video.
