Terror Leader Abubakar Shekau Removed As Boko Haram Helmsman, Replaced By Deputy

In a development that may bring relief to the Nigerians, Chad President on Wednesday said that Islamist group Boko Haram’s leader Abubakar Shekau was ousted, adding that the group will be finished by the end of this year.
According to a report in the Telegraph, Chadian President Idriss Deby said that Abubakar Shekau had been toppled and was replaced by his deputy named Mahamat Daoud, who is said to be open to peace talks.
President Deby added that the new Boko Haram chief wanted to negotiated with the Nigerian government, however he suggested it would not be apt to negotiate with a terrorist.
“There is someone apparently called Mahamat Daoud who is said to have replaced Abubakr Shekau and he wants to negotiate with the Nigerian government…For my part, I would advise not to negotiate with a terrorist,” the Telegraph quoted Deby as speaking in a press conference.
Deby’s comments came as Boko Haram is said to have come on a back foot after intensified offensive by Chadian and Nigerian government.

I Leave Her To God, Says ‘fake’ Corps Member’s Victim

One Amale Pius told an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court that he is ready to commit a suspected fake female corps member that allegedly carted away his over N1 million worth of properties to God.
The court struck out the case of the suspected 25-year-old woman, Anita Ubi Sani, following the withdrawal of the case by the nominal complainant on Tuesday.
Anita Ubi Sani of Back of Cathedral Church, Wida, Abuja, was charged with joint act and theft, offences that contradict Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The Police prosecutor, Igono Icholi, had earlier told the court that the complainant, of Phase 2, Site 1, on February 3, reported at the Kubwa Police Station that the accused, with two others, presently at large, jointly in furtherance of a common intention, went to his apartment and carted away his properties worth N1, 505, 000 without his consent.
He said the accused sold the items in an undisclosed place and converted the proceeds to her personal use.
According to the prosecutor, the accused was arrested in a DSTV office in Bwari, where she was trying to recharge one of the stolen items, thereby causing him wrongful loss.
When the case came up in court, the complainant requested that the case be withdrawn.
He said he was touched by God to leave everything to Him.
The Judge, Mohammed Marafa, while striking out the case, asked the complainant to apply for the termination of the case citing his reasons.

President Buhari Initiates Move For Weapons Production In Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari Friday in Abuja directed the Federal Ministry of Defence to produce a plan for the establishment of a modest Military Industrial Complex for the local production of weapons to meet some of the requirements of the country’s armed forces.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the National Defence College, President Buhari described as unacceptable, Nigeria’s current over-dependence on other countries for critical military equipment and logistics. “We must evolve viable mechanisms for near-self-sufficiency in military equipment and logistics production complemented only by very advanced foreign technologies.
“The Ministry of Defence is being tasked to draw up clear and measurable outlines for development of a modest Military Industrial Complex for Nigeria.
“In this regard, it is to liaise with other strategic MDAs and industries to re-engineer the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to meet national military hardware and logistics requirements,” the President said.
President Buhari told the gathering that his administration had, since its assumption of office, reviewed the nature and character of Nigeria’s security threats and challenges. “We recognized first and foremost, the external dimensions of these threats and the need for international cooperation and common security mechanisms to tackle them,” the President said.
President Buhari added that in the light of this realization, his Administration was “convinced that the best approach was to work within the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) to mobilize a collective regional effort in the fight against terrorism and insurgency. The President urged the graduates and officers and men of the Armed Forces to work harder to win the war against Boko Haram, terrorism and insurgency.
“We must apply a comprehensive strategy and coordinate all elements of national power against terrorism and insurgency; we must show result oriented leadership at all levels of military Command; we must set up an optimal organization to manage and sustain operational performance; and we must show confidence and winning mentality,” President Buhari told them.
The President assured that the Federal Government under his leadership will strive to meet the operational, logistic, training and welfare requirements of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He also reaffirmed his commitment to ameliorating the hardships of people living in areas most affected by insurgency and terrorism.
“We have the will, resolve and conviction to apply a comprehensive strategy and coordinate all elements of national power against terrorism and insurgency,” the President reassured Nigerians and the international community.
President Buhari said that the National Defence College had fulfilled the vision of its founding fathers, by becoming a strategic human capacity-building institution, making credible contributions to Nigeria and other friendly countries.
The President urged graduates of the College’s Course 23 to resolve to make “a marked difference in your future deployments and contribute your quota to the evolution and implementation of national security, defence and military strategies.”
“You should be the source that lights up the environment wherever you find yourselves,” he told them.

8 Suspected Boko Haram Insurgents Reportedly Denounce Membership

Reports have it that no fewer than eight suspected Boko Haram men have renounced membership of the violent sect after they were arrested in Borno southern town. The eight men, according to the chairman of Civilian JTF (youth vigilante) at Mussa District, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area, Apagu Istifanus, claimed they were fed up with the violent campaigns of the militia and as such allegedly resolved to quit.
Apagu said the insurgents were interrogated by the vigilante before handing them over to the military in neighbouring Mubi, Adamawa State..
‘’We arrested eight Boko Haram members at Mussa around 4pm on Thursday. When we interrogated them, they said they were tired, they don’t want to fight Jihads again and we handed them over to the military in Mubi, Adamawa State for more information,” he said. He claimed that six of the suspects said they came from Gwoza, a Boko Haram stronghold near the area.
